Electro Dermal Screening is used to diagnose disease by measuring the skin’s electrical resistance to detect energy imbalances along acupuncture meridians.  It is a non-invasive, biofeedback (or TENS) machine, which screens for variations in galvanic skin resistance.

An EDS machine is used to produce a microscopic electrical current that is undetectable by the human eye. The current is run through a probe that is touched to the patient’s skin. A second probe is touched to different locations on the body to measure the flow of current to that area.  There are no needles, electrical shocks, or invasive techniques used in EDS.  The computer converts the skin resistance response to a number. The number readings are interpreted as they fall between and outside of predetermined parameters of balance.

What are the applications of EDS treatments?

EDS devices can help identify energy imbalances in the body, select specific treatments, measure the progress of therapy and even detect disorders before they are manifested in your body such as allergies, organ weakness, parasites, heavy metal intoxication, food intolerances, pesticide burden, nutrient deficiencies, and more.  The ramification of finding disease precursors before they are evident and discernable in the body is a major medical milestone.   The ripple effect of EDS’s role in thwarting disease is colossal.

How does EDS work?

Dr. Chris Kaufmann at Abundant Health and Wellness Center in Sarasota Fla. has a long history of performing routine EDS testing.  The testing device sends a very small electrical current through a probe. The patient may hold a probe in one hand, while a second probe is touched to another part of the body. This completes a low-voltage electrical circuit, and a computer screen or a needle on a gauge reads out a number between 0 and 100. This may be repeated at many different places on the skin. The numbers are used to decide if the patient’s energy is out of balance. This method of testing is subjective. IT IS ONLY AS GOOD AS THE CLINICIAN IN CHARGE.  In the hands of a knowledgeable and experienced physician, it can be of tremendous help.

Dr. Kaufmann learned EAV testing from the doctors who helped create and evolve it.  If the patient is being tested for a type of treatment, samples of various homeopathic, herbal or nutritional remedies may be evaluated as the probe is touched to the disorder region of the body. Different substances are tested until one is found that “balances” the energy disturbance.

What is the history of EDS?

The galvanic skin response was discovered in the early 1900′s. Galvanic skin testing detects sweat on the skin, and more sweat produces better electrical conduction.

In the 1950′s, a West German physician and acupuncturist named Reinhold Voll combined acupuncture theory with galvanic skin response technology. He tested the skin along various points with particular attention to the acupuncture meridians.  This is how galvanic skin response testing became known as Electro Acupuncture According to Voll or Electro Dermal Screening.

Is there conclusive evidence on EDS?

Although Electro Dermal Screening (galvanic skin response) has not been approved by the FDA yet for diagnosis or treatment of cancer or other illnesses, you may ask Dr. Kaufmann for success statistics as a result of patients utilizing EDS.
